Victorian State Rebate
There are currently 2 Victorian State Solar Hot Water System Rebates on offer - one for Metropolitan Melbourne Solar Hot Water System installs and the other for Regional Victoria Solar Hot Water System installs. To see which rebate your suburb could be eligible for, please Click here.
It should be noted that these rebates are available as a point of sale discount only. Once you have selected a product and would like to locate a distributor, you should contact 1300 365 116(when calling from inside VIC).
1) Metropolitan Melbourne Solar Hot Water Rebate (POS discount only)
The total rebate available ranges between $900 and $1500 depending on the size of the system and its performance (e.g. solar contribution). The ‘Rebate-A-Meter’ can be used to determine what rebate amount is available for each type of eligible system.
This rebate is offered on eligible installs until the 31st December 2010.
Installations may be eligible for this rebate if they are;
- Replacing an existing gas hot water system with a gas boosted solar water heater
- Installing a solar water heater as a pre-heater to an existing gas water heater
- Converting an existing electric hot water system to a solar by installing a retrofit kit
- Replacing an existing solar water heater with a solar system (must be gas-solar where gas is available)
Applicants may be eligible for this rebate where;
- The property is an existing home, which is permanently occupied by an owner or tenant
- Solar collectors have been installed by a licensed plumber, so that they face between North-East and North-West on the roof, with a Compliance Certificate issued
- Some community buildings and not for profit organisations may be eligible for the rebate – Click here for more information

2) Regional Victoria Solar Hot Water Rebate (POS discount only)
The total rebate available ranges between $1900 and $2500 depending on the size of the system and its performance (e.g. solar contribution). The ‘Rebate-A-Meter’ can be used to determine what rebate amount is available for each type of eligible system.
This rebate is offered on eligible installs until the 31st December 2010.
Installations may be eligible for this rebate if they are;
- A gas boosted solar system being installed as a replacement for a natural gas or LPG water heater
- An electric water heater is being replaced by gas boosted solar system(in gas reticulated areas)*
- An electric water heater is being replaced by an LPG boosted or electric boosted solar System(includes heat pumps)
- A solar water heater is installed as a pre-heater to an existing gas water heater
- Converting an existing electric hot water system to a solar by installing a retrofit kit
- Replacing an existing solar water heater with a solar system (must be gas-solar where gas is available)
Applicants may be eligible for this rebate where;
- The property is and existing home which is permanently occupied by an owner or tenant;

In cases where the applicant is eligible for both this rebate and Federal Government $1000 rebate, the maximum that can be received is $2500. In this instance, the applicant can elect to receive the full rebate from Sustainability Victoria at the point of sale, OR; reduce the point of sale rebate by $1000 and apply for the Federal Government rebate post purchase, through the usual application process. Householders replacing an existing electric system will be required to answer a question regarding their income, to access both of these rebates. Sustainability Victoria and the Australian Government will share information on rebate applications.

* An additional $200 may be applied for if the installation address is being connected to Natural Reticulated Gas for the first time. This will assist with the cost to switch from electric water heating to environmentally friendly gas boosted solar.
