Queensland State Rebate

There are no Queensland rebates for solar or heat pump hot water systems that are available state wide, however there are the following two rebates on offer;

1) Brisbane City Council Solar Water Heater Rebate
2) QLD Gas Appliance Rebate

1) Brisbane City Council Solar Water Heater

Rebate Amount: $400

Eligible Hot Water Systems:
Gas and Electric Boosted Solar and Heat Pumps

In an effort to reduce electricity bills and greenhouse gas emissions in the Brisbane area, the Brisbane City Council is offering a total of 1500 rebates of $400 between July 1, 2008 and June 30, 2009, when a Solar or Heat Pump Hot Water system is installed.

The other key qualification criteria are;

  • Only eligible for installations on existing homes which are not used for commercial, industrial or other non-residential purposes;
  • The Solar or Heat pump hot water system must attain greater than 20 RECs points(as determined by ORER) and must be replacing an existing electric or gas hot water system;
  • Must be a new system and have at least a 5 year warranty on major components and be sized correctly to meet household requirements;
  • The premises must be located in the Brisbane City council local government area (council rates must be paid on the property);
  • For Solar Hot Water Systems, solar collectors should be situated to face between NE and NW (no shading of collectors is permitted);
  • The system must be installed by a licensed plumber and inspected by a Brisbane City Council Certified Inspector (call (07) 3403 8888).

  • The rebate can either be passed on as a point-of-sale discount via one of the ‘Program Participant Suppliers’ (who will manage the rebate paperwork for the customer and can guarantee one of the 1500 rebates), or be claimed post installation following an inspection by Brisbane City Council’s Plumbing services (requires the application form to be sent along with the system receipt/invoice).

    Please note that this rebate does not appear in the ‘Rebate-A-Meter’ of this website.

    2) QLD Gas Appliance Rebate

    You may be eligible for a rebate of $300 if you are installing a 5 star rated gas storage or continuous flow system. The criteria for this rebate is that you own a property in which a 5 star rated gas hot water system has been installed, to replace an electric hot water system.

    The scheme is administered by the Department of Mines and Energy (DME) and funded from September 7, 2006 to August 31, 2009, or until all funds are fully committed.
